Membership Letter Regarding AFOA's Future

Dear AFOA Member:

The future of our association is an important discussion, and I will

appreciate everyone’s comments and suggestions.

It is known that as far back as 1920 there were WWI aviation veterans

meeting for social contact with others from the same background. That is

exactly what brought me to join AFOA in the early 1990s. I liked the social

contact the functions provided for me. In 1936 our group formalized their

existence and following WWII AFOA became a group under the provincial

societies act. In 2012 we assumed control of the Battle of Britain Memorial

Trust Fund from an earlier RCAF Association in Burnaby. That is the

formation of ours today.

On June 27 we are planning to hold a Summer Lunch at the University Golf

Club and after lunch we will hold our Annual General Meeting. I am hoping

we can have a hybrid meeting with attendees in person and a Zoom

attendance by those who cannot attend in person but want to participate

from other locations. There are certain requirements if we close our

group(s) and any monies remaining are passed to specific places. What I

am asking from you now is how you would like us to proceed? If we

formally close AFOA would you be interested in remaining as a social

member with a few informal gathering a years strictly for the social benefit?

The same issue applies to BBMF but there may be a separate group able

to assume that function. We are exploring that possibility now.

Please send me your comments and ideas to bobreid42@gmail.com . I will

attempt to share inputs and hope to hear back from many members. I want

to hear from all members, Associate, Life, Honorary and Ordinary.

Thank you in advance,

Bob Reid

President
